The Kandagawa river flows in the north of the Ochanomizu station. It is a students' quarter where several universities are located such as Meiji University, Nihon University, and Tokyo Medical and Dental University, etc. by the surrounding of the station, and is called 'Quartier Latin in Japan'. Moreover, there are a famous hospital with the histories, a lot of music stores and sporting goods stores, too.

Needless to say, this town is very famous as "Akihabara Electric Town" all over the world. Not only mass merchandiser selling various electric appliances but also small shops treating electronic parts that the stores don't treat are still staying in existence as a source of an electric street. Moreover, it has one side of town for the subculture mania called "Otaku". It is also famous all over the country for the vending machines of "Oden" are set up in the town.

"Kanda" is a district next to "Akihabara" or "Ochanomizu". It is home of "Kanda Myojin" shrine of which festival was one of the three most famous in the city in the Edo period. And there are a lot of bookstores and second hand bookshops.

Kanda Yabu Soba (Kanda area)HP

It was established in 1880 counted one of the big three of "Yabu soba" style which are "Kanda", "Namiki" and "Ikenohata". The feature of "Yabu soba" style is that you dip the soba noodles into somewhat salty broth before eating. The shop is traditional Japanese style house that have lived through the fire and destruction of the World War II.

Kanda Myojin Shrine (Kanda area)HP

It is a head shrine 108 shinto shrines in Tokyo such as Kanda, Nihonbashi, Akihabara, Otemachi, Marunouchi, Tsukiji Fish market and so on. There is a stone monument to Zenigata Heiji in the precincts derived form a popular Japanese television series, "Zenigata Heiji", which features a fictitious police patrolman (the title character) whose beat is here Kanda. In May the Kanda festival is held, that is counted by one of the three major festivals in Tokyo, and it crowds with the great number of people. At the festival 200 portable shrines ("Mikoshi") parade being shouldered by people with high-spirited yelling.

It was opened in 2006 and consists of two super-high-rise buildings: Akihabara Daibiru Building and AKIHABARA UDX. The complex is expected to be a new focal point for the Akihabara district, holding areas for Industry-Academia Collaboration, information networking, and attractions for visitors. Its presence has greatly different image from the same which has been Akihabara before.

Yushima Seido Temple (Ochanomizu area)HP

It was constructed as a Confucian temple in the Genroku era of the Edo period. The Yushima Seido has its origins in a private Confucian temple, the Sensei-den, constructed in 1630 by the neo-Confucian scholar Hayashi Razan in his grounds at Shinobi-ga-oka (now in Ueno ark). The fifth Tokugawa shogun, Tsunayoshi moved the building to its present site in 1690, where it became the Taiseiden of Yushima Seido. The Hayashi school of Confucianism moved at the same time. Under the Kansei Edict, which made neo-Confucianism the official philosophy of Japan, the Hayashi school was transformed into a state-run school under the control of the shogunate in 1797. The school was known as the Shohei-zaka Gakumonsho or Shoheiko. During the time of the Tokugawa shogunate, the school attracted many men of talent.

Yushima Seido

Holy Resurrection Cathedral (Nikolai Do) (Ochanomizu area)HP

Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Tokyo, which is the main cathedral of the Orthodox Church in Japan, was built in 1891. The commonly known name "Nikolai-do" originates from "sage Nikolai" who came to Japan from Russia for the orthodoxy mission and sub-apostle. As for the architectural style, the big dome-shaped roof features the Byzantine style. It is specified for an important cultural property in Japan in 1983.

Mansei-bashi bridge (Akihabara)

It is an arch bridge made of stone and concrete 26m in length and 36 meters in width and across the Kanda-gawa river. It was built in 1930 as part of the capital reconstruction project after the great earthquake.

Hijiri-bashi bridge (Ochanomizu area)

It is an arch bridge across the Kanda-gawa river. "Hijiri" means a sage. The name "Hijiri-bashi" was originated from that it connects two religious architectures namely the Yushima Temple and the Nikolai Cathedral.
The arch that draws a ferro-concrete parabola can be seen from the platform at Ochanomizu Station.

It is a valley where the Kanda-gawa river flows. In Edo period it was called the Sendai canal. Its slopes are thickly covered with dense trees unusually in the center of Tokyo.
